Search the FAQ for entries containing:

An "arm reach envelope" is the area within your easy reach, without stretching or awkward reaching, when you are sitting or standing at your work area.

To find your arm reach envelope, sit or stand at your work area and reach your hands out towards your monitor.  Once your arms are fully extended, move your right arm to right and left arm to left even with your shoulders.  When you move your extended arms back to your monitor you are covering your "arm reach envelope".

The items that you use more frequently need to be with this arm reach envelope, i.e. phone, pens/pencils. Photos can then be set behind the more frequently used items.
